Sofa Shopping: how to find the right fit for your family

A sofa can set up an entire room. It can be the starting point when beginning to furnish a new space or just the right piece of the puzzle to upgrade your current space. Your sofa should not only bring the room together, but almost above all else, it should be comfortable and suit the needs of your entire family.  When it is time to upgrade or furnish your space, finding the perfect sofa can be an exciting experience.  There are many factors to be considered, however. Here are a few things to look out for when finding the perfect sofa for your home.

Quality

A sofa that is meant to last should be quality-made. Most sofas receive a lot of use, movie nights, impromptu beds for kids, even the occasional work from home space. So make sure you are picking out a sofa that can hang with your lifestyle. At Juniper Hill Furniture, we work with plenty of vendors who offer the highest quality furniture and upholstery, fabrics and custom finishes too. Need a sofa that can handle some wine spills? How about a sofa with pets in mind? We’ve got you covered, no pun intended. We have performance fabrics from Lexington, Century Furniture, and Bernhardt, which are all great places to start looking for quality upholstery.

Style

Design matters. Modern or classic? Leather or fabric? Neutral tones or a pop of color? If you are looking for the right piece to add to a current space, bring in a picture or have the designers come to you to see what may work best.   If you already have an idea of how you want your space to look, share any colors, textures, style and patterns with the professionals so they can bring you options that suit your preferences. Check out Vanguard Furniture, Tov Furniture, and Luonto Furniture for different kinds of stylistic choices.

Comfort

We talked a bit about this previously, but comfort is so important it deserves another mention.  Choose the sofa that provides comfort at all times of the year. When walking into your home, the sofa you select is going to be that element that is inviting and signifies happiness and relaxation. Sit on the sofa before you buy it if you can.  How does the fabric feel?  How deep do you sit, can your feet still touch the ground?  Is it easy to sit down, and subsequently get off of the sofa, although the goal is for you to never want to.  Think of a sofa that you can look forward to lounging on with your family at the end of the day. A sofa that is good enough to sleep on means ultimate comfort!

Size

Just like homes, families come in all sizes. Do you need a sectional sofa or is a two-seater more compatible with your living space? Would the space be better suited for an “L-shaped” or curved sofa? Is there room for a lounge? The biggest mistake people make is not choosing the right size sofa to fit their space.  Too big and you’ve shrunk your living space, too small, and the whole room can look off. A professional interior designer will come measure your space and find just the right ratio of sofa to living space.  You don’t have to make these tough decisions alone, so utilize your options.
